Made it to the states in one peace. Flights were full but got talking to some nice Americans that I was sitting next to (Bob and Pam aren't the only nice Americans, there are a couple more out there... lol).
Americans dig our Kiwi accent I discovered while talking to customs officers. No dramas getting into the country. Thank you Lord!
Arrived in LA about 2pm Sunday and spent the night there, met up with the rest of the crew.
We were up at 6am on Monday morning to catch our flight to Kansas City. We then drove 2.5 hours to a place called Chanute where we will be based for about a week. This is where all the gear that we will be using for our tours is being stored. Spent yesterday setting up and checking that gear still works then started rehearsal. Twas a long day but made some good progress.
We are staying at a place call the Coffee House. It is a community outreach centre/drop in centre for youth. It has a cafe and lounge area for people to hang and another area off to the side which is a venue for shows etc. Up stairs they have a 4 bedroom apartment which we are staying in. it's great for us, We have all our gear set up down stairs so we can take our time with things and make sure we have things running well. Coffee House is owned and run by a christian couple Mark and Meredith Harms. Mark is a doctor. Amazing couple. Its a great set up.
At the moment I am sitting in the back of the van heading to our first show in Tulsa. Not much to see here at this time of year. The trees are bare, the corn fields are bare, the sun is out but only just and its coldish. haven't seen any snow yet though.
This first show is a bit of a throw together for a youth group of about 200 but if it goes well then we could be invited back to play at some of the bigger youth rallies that this church runs throughout the year. We will be driving back to Tulsa after the show so should be home about 12 midnight. Friday night we will be playing at the Coffee House and Sunday morning we are playing at a local church in Chanute.
I am feeling good. Still getting used to the time zone. I was up at 7:30am this morning which in NZ time is 1:30am thursday morning i think..? so body wants to still be asleep..
Have spoken with Kirsty via Skype which is great!! Please add me to your Skype, my name is mike_aitofi and it should be easy to find me as there aren't that many Aitofi's in the world of Skype..
Other than that not much else to report.
Blessings,
Mike A
